Before leaving for the weekend today, the Senate plucked one provision from HR 4213, passed it by unanimous consent, and sent it to the House for a vote.

No -- the extension of federal unemployment benefits was not the provision given the special treatment.

It was the "doc fix" -- a six-month extension of the higher reimbursement rates for doctors with Medicare and Medicaid patients. Democrats agreed to Republican demands that the "doc fix" extension not add to the deficit. The six-month "doc fix" provision passed by the Senate today represents a cut-back from the three-year extension previously passed by the House.

After the Senate vote, a statement from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated that the "doc fix" bill "might not have an easy road" through the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, back in the Senate, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) vowed to pass HR 4213 “at the earliest possible date.”

What a joke what is that statement suppose to give us hope, he is part of the problem. This will go to the end of June no doubt!

I DID see that ! Obama wants them to help us ! But how much can he do to push this emergency 30 day extension until they work out something longer ?

PS, how do you guys get color text as above ? ( not to change the topic )

He's rejected republican plans for unemployment extensions, just like they've rejected his. It's a big game of chicken. Both sides are at fault here. But it looks like if anyone's going to yield, it will be Reid, and not the republicans or so called moderate democrats.

It probably will go to the end of June--one can only hope if we ever get that next check it will be retroactive.

Default A peek at things to come

As many have speculated, those loosing benefits will lower the UE rates. The NYTimes reported correctly on lowered UE rates, but instead of stopping at people "stopped looking for work" how many will read on to "people loosing their benefits". An unfortunate equation set up most places -- ie that people loosing benefits have stopped looking for work, instead of just stopped being counted - - -

[sorry the link makes you land on the advert -but just skip it]

& for those who say the comment is just doom & gloom -- I don't want the economy to stink - far from it, but what good does it do if you have a disease & the Dr says you're getting better 'cause they only count what they find on the xray of your foot?

Anyone seen this:
Senate passes 'doc fix' - David Rogers and Jennifer Haberkorn - POLITICO.com
While it talks about the docfix that was passed in the Senate; it says Pelosi has no intention of passing it in the House. This will give everyone in Congress nightmares as the AMA and Seniors will crucify them in short order I believe. Way to go Nancy!! She wants the whole Bill passed -- good for her!

Georgia went from 10.4% to 10.2%..........woohooo!
I know what you mean - New York went from 9.8 to 9.7.

Big whoop.

It's all about the Census jobs AND those 99ers that have dropped off from being counted in the unemployment roll.
