Well, Chango, I would want to know what a CO meter says about the house. If the levels are above normal, even slightly, that can explain some of this.
I cannot figure the mouthwash, especially if thee were other items on the shelf that did not fall off.
My scariest thing ever was the seashell on the Ouija board back in the 70s. No explanation.
One f my teachers said "O that was just coincidence.".....coincidence that in 4 years, that seashell never once fell out of that net, and in fact nothing ever fell out f that net except when we were playing with the Ouija board.

Been there, checked that. We've had a Co2 detector in the basement since day 1 because we're running a 100 year old boiler with no safety features and I was worried about it. We had a radon check too; no bad air here (which is nice! ). This time of year the windows are usually open even, and when it gets warm the swamp cooler is pumping the house full of large amounts of fresh air too.
It's all good to me though; I can certainly see why people invented religion in the first place if all this weirdness has been going on since day 1; which I imagine it has.
It's just too bad science is too busy ignoring and/or laughing at this stuff instead of trying to find us some better answers.
Medically speaking, prolonged exposure to even low levels of Carbon Monoxide can cause symptoms including auditory and visual hallucinations.
I would suggest setting up a video camera at the bottom of the basement, pointed up the staircase. See if anything happens. Hopefully there are no raccoons or rodentia paying you a visit.
Not ghost stories but a couple of odd things that have happened involving the side door...
One day there was a knock at the door. I was at the computer downstairs. My inclination was to not answer it because I assumed it was another "water heater" scammers - but I nevertheless got up immediate and went upstairs. This is a matter of literally five seconds and when I look out the window, no one is there. I walk down the driveway, no one that I can see. Or maybe they went straight into the backyard and hopped the fence? Perhaps someone was playing a joke. Nothing had been left that I could see.
[Sometime (I believe) later I was again at the computer downstairs and there was suddenly a rapid and sharp knock-knock-knock -- this time I raced upstairs and there was no one there. Opened the door and am down the driveway - nothing. Perplexed I go back to the side door but then notice a squirrel peeking out from beneath the car, watching me... I watch it for a moment and wonder what it was up to. When I open the storm door I see what this was all about - the squirrel had dropped a black walnut through torn screen (caused by out late cat). So the nut bouncing around was the source of the "knocking".]
Anyway, this next one happened about two months ago. It's about 2 or 3 am in the morning and again I'm at the computer downstairs and all of a sudden I hear the doorknob begin to slowly turn. It makes such a distinct sound that there's no doubt about it. Also it seemed to only turn in one direction as it would have to spring back - also I'm quite certain that it could have been stuck, and was simply turning back on its own. My first thought is someone's testing to see if we leave our doors unlocked at night - but then again I don't hear the sound of the storm door opening/closing. This time I was a bit hesitant about going out and looking around but eventually did - whoever did this had more than enough time to abscond.
...because life is too boring without the unknown, and "tis the season", after all.
I've mentioned before that I happen to be a godless heathen who lives in an actual "haunted" house. Things have been quiet for a couple years but the strange activity has picked up again. For example, I was in the front room the other day playing Xbox (alone at home during the afternoon) when I heard a huge crash from one of the bedrooms. It literally sounded like someone had tipped over a large shelf full of china, it was that loud. I ran to the bedroom to see what the deal was; nothing was out of place. I searched the rest of the house and even went up into the attic but found absolutely no source for the sound.
Also, last month my 11 year old so burst into our bedroom late one night in a panic. He said he heard footsteps comming up the stairs (the stairwell from the basement is right next to his room); interestingly enough, it's where I saw our "ghost" a few years ago shortly after moving in. We only just barely got him to sleep in his room again, and we had to force him and stay up late until after he fell asleep to get that far. He still refuses to go into the basement alone.
I still don't think "spirits of the dead" are causing the phenomenon, but I am certain there is something to it. Ghosts have been been part of the human experience for at least as long as we've been able to write about them; religion has tried to explain them and science has tried to ignore them, but ghosts just aren't going away...nor are realistic explanations forthcomming in the near future.
Anybody wanna recount their brush(es) with the unknown?

We had a "big bang" experience this past Summer. Not much different from the one that you describe.
We were in the family room. My husband and I were in the family room. I was reading. He was watching sports. Our daughter (18) was upstairs, as was our 20 year old son. It was a quiet night.
The A/C was on so it was hard to hear anything from outside. Except for the sports, it was quiet.
Then, from the front of the house came a sound that was like an explosion. BANG!
Both kids came running down stairs shouting "what was THAT?" For a moment I thought that a car had driven into our screened porch.
The dining room and living room are in the front of the house. We have a sideboard and china cabinet in the dining room. Lots of delicate and breakable things inside.
It was untouched.
Just the loud BOOM!
I asked three neighbors. All said that they had not heard anything that night. An older neighbor said that she had heard this once before, in the early 60s. She did not want to talk about it.
All she said was "Say a prayer and forget about it". Then she closed the front door.
Last week something else happened. I'd set the table and I was cooking dinner. Our glasses are solid with a heavy base. It you drop one, the top half will crack, but not shatter.
Suddenly, there was a sound like a gun shot. I looked at the table and there where a glass once sat were almost 100 pieces of tiny cracked and crazed glass. At first I didn't even recognize what the mess of crystals were - that's what it looked like. A mess of crystals. They were so small and fine it was hard to tell what it once was. The missing third glass and my husband matching the pattern of the glass to another glass, told us what it had been.
Why it happened? That's a question.
I think that these events signal a change. My dad is very ill. I wonder if the glass portends his death.
The big bang in the living room and dining room? I have no idea.
What's more, who makes these things happen? Some would say God. But why would God scare us?
In terms of your house, Chango; I think that it is built over a vortex. I also think that you are spiritual and psychic and attract these things. I think that I am also.
A heavy based glass shattering explosively is not difficult to explain or understand. Glass can do that. Why just then? Well, why not?

It's CO that needs to be detected as that is what can cause hallucinations, not CO2. CO2 will only kill you (mind you, enough CO will kill you too, only it feels more pleasant).
