MSN: 'Sea monster' spotted on Google Earth. From that link I put in the coordinates in Google Earth and do the 'flyover' on the PC. It is an interesting image and it does have some unique observations you can gather from the 'Earth' program.

To me it looks almost like the tail of a large squid sticking out the ocean. Or, as the article suggest, it could be the tail of the blue whale? It is large; about 60 meters or about 100 feet and that is just what is visible.

However; there is one glitch. The dark area where the picture was taken measures about three miles in diameter (by Earth). Earth also shows no depth to the ocean in that round patch. Normally dark blue is used to show great depths. If the water is extremely shallow that image could be of some aircraft that went down and the tail sticks up? The wake could be from waves breaking over a very shallow reef?

As the MSN link points out; that area is close (about eight miles) to 'Deception Island'. If you are interested in doing your own armchair research and have the Google program; here are the coordinates: 63° 2’56.73″S 60°57’32.38″W.

This has already been debunked. It's a rock that shows up on nautical maps. This is why these pseduo-sciences and conspiracy theorists are so easy to con, they never do any research besides looking a piece of evidence and jumping to conclusions before actually trying to rule stuff out.

I"m not directing this at you, fisheye, I thought it was cool, too, but yeah, it's been debunked.

Release the...

"Release the rock..."
Nah, that just doesn't have the same sense of impending doom.

Thanks for debunking! I usually look for the rational explanation first. But I do love my Google Earth program. I was suspicious that Earth listed that three mile circle as zero sea depth - they are pretty good altitude and sea depth. So I had also speculated that it was a protrusion (possibly airplane crash) sticking out of the sea. The name of the closest island should have been a dead giveaway.

I love the quote from Scott Waring in the original article posted by the OP..."This looks like the kraken", as if anybody has seen a kraken and would be able to recognize it from a blurry photo taken from outer space! I say it looks exactly like what it is...a rock and a shallow reef.

Actually, I was thinking it over, and that picture is considerably better evidence than most BF photos! Plus it is from our trusted Google!

I did think that it looked more like one giant squid tail. Perhaps it is time to get back to my optometrist!
