Really? That's interesting! What about Armistice day? I've heard that it's observed pretty closely on the continent. Is it the same in the UK?

Very much so. But it isn`t a holiday as it`s celebrated [if that`s the word] on a Sunday...

I heard from a friend who use to be an Airline Stewardess that there are a couple American type bars that celebrate things like this for ex-patriates in London.

Any theme bar worth it`s licence would have been flying the flag yesterday in the UK..Any excuse for a booze up over here...

How hilarious.

Same as here for St. Patricks day, they aren't kidding when they say "Everyone is Irish on St. Pattys day". Any excuse to drink.
