In reading this thread i just realise that Britain doesn't celebrate an independance?? For example when the Romans were expelled in 410 A.D. or the ''Union of 1707'' when Great Britain was created correct?? or when the United Kingdom was created in 1801 ''Act of the Union'' ?? Were their any terrible monarchs who were deposed in which are celebrated like an independance???
There used to be unique holidays in the past though. I remember reading that the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth I's coronation was celebrated. And then there was Guy Fawkes day, but that's probably not PC anymore
Is the Queen's birthday an official holiday over there?
The Queen's birthday, Is an official Holiday here in Australia, We celebrate it in June. Except for WA, Which celebartes it, During September/October (WA has the State's "Foundation Day" holiday In June, Instead of the Queen's Birthday )
We used to Celebrate Empire Day and Guy Fawkes Day, But they're holidays, That have been increasingly Seen as Being, Not particularly relevant to Australia anymore.

We don't really have any unique holidays...There's boxing day - the day after christmas, but that's just an extention of christmas. Besides, if we did I can't think of anything Brits would do that would be unique... 4th of July is always great in San Antonio - lived there 1 year and Austin 4years. Stuff yourself with brisket and ribs for me ....
Does Britain no longer observe Remembrance day????
Easter Monday is a great idea. I've been wishing for that holiday forever. Easter is a big deal here in the states also. It's such a drag to have to go back to work the next day.

Why am I not surprised it's a holiday for aussies. I don't care for the monarchy and frankly feel we should feed them cake before we chop their heads off, but I'd say yes to a holiday for Liz's birthday in a heartbeat.

Then we get another holiday a month later...again I'm never to sure what that ones for but I think it's our labour day.
Hey! Come on over, and I'll grill you a steak, brat, or burger. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I've got Boca burgers and spinach salad in the fridge.
Viva la cookout!
I'm so far away
