Posted a question about it in the DC forums, but figured I would post it here as well:
Since DC is the nations capital and it's been growing for around the past 20 years or so, do you think it can also become a cultural capital considering it has (growing)economic and political power. What I mean in this regard is things like mass media, fashion, finance,etc...? Right now it's still in the process of expanding it's transportation network and it's the second largest network in the US behind NYC. As of right now, DC is a boom for people in young adulthood which is a good recipe for attracting those sorts of industries outside of politics.
I don't see that happening.. you still have LA, you still have Chicago... etc. Also, are you sure about that second largest public transit system? And what does that have to do with anything anyway. LA is way above DC and their public transit sucks.
people think of DC in terms of politics before anything else, and usually in negative terms.
you have to get rid of the corruption first or it will never be well known for anything else.
By strict definition, D.C. would have to grow to a size twice as large as NYC and more than twice as significant as other world cities like NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, etc. Aside from politics, D.C.'s significance in other aspects (i.e., economy, media, culture, etc.) has to compete, and currently lags behind, at the very least, LA's and Chicago's. D.C. as a primate city? Not in our lifetime.

That's really funny! DC has been "growing" for a long time, way more than 20 years. It's undergone some changes, now gentrifying, but it's always been growing. Agree about all the primates working there, too.
Could DC become the United States first primate city
Other cities like NYC, LA, Chicago, etc. are continually growing/developing/evolving so the 'benchmarks' against which DC is measured are constantly moving.
[therefore, barring all other cities becoming static now, the answer to your question is - no]
