My husband and I are considering moving to Ogden, mostly because of the attractive pricing and smaller population. I've only been there once, so I was wondering if anyone can breakdown the area for me and tell me if there are any really bad neighborhoods to avoid. I keep hearing that the crime is really bad and it makes me nervous because were trying to start a family. Also, what is Code Enforcement like there? I live in West Valley now and they are tyrants about peoples' yards, so it'd be nice to know how they treat people in Ogden.
Thanks!

Landozgrl,

Are you in WVC, UT, or another West Valley?

If in UT, I'm sure you see the evening news. Check the State of UT website and look for crime info. Also, check the City of Ogden's info from their PD and elsewhere.

If you belong to a church, work in a job where you would have colleagues already living in Ogden etc., talk to them.

If you are from a different West Valley, than UT, I'd still recommend the same contacts as a way to start researching these facts.

Good luck.

I live in Riverdale, close to Ogden. It is wonderful, we have the Weber River a block from our house and shopping close by. I would consider moving to South Ogden, North Ogden, Washington Terrace or Roy before living in downtown Ogden. But then again, I've lived in the Ogden area most of my life and have NEVER felt unsafe even in downtown Ogden on late nights. It has a worse reputation than it deserves.

I lived in Ogden while I went to college at the U. The community is doing very well and they have spent a ton on new infrastructure for the city and are extremely tough on crime. Anything east of say 1200 East (Harrision Blvd) is fine, actually it is amazing. Trails right out your door and downtown has a new 13 screen megaplex, flowrider wave (free standing wave to surf on) a wind tunnel to practice sky diving in, and that is just the beginning. The train will begin running from Ogden to SLC in the fall and start carrying passengers in the Spring. Crime has been cleaned up a ton as the city has hired more police and implemented good landlord programs and the locals are very proud of the city. 25th street is really cool.
Let me know if I can get you any other info.
