I was not hit so hard but having 2 future buildable 5 acre lots adjoining my 6 acre homestead was a huge plus that went away 4 years into ownership... the county revamp the master plan and decided it was no longer buildable...

When we were looking almost 4 years ago finding a single story was a challenge. We changed our parameter to master on the main, but even that was a challenge. We eventually did find a single story on a small lot, and now we wonder what we would do with a larger lot. All our kids in Portland have smaller lots, and they have our grandkids living with them.
Jane, we checked out wishing well estates today and it was perfect. Currently nothing for sale but it's going on my Zillow watch list.

I had never been to Ridgefield, so much development. The new school looks amazing!

Wishing Wells 2 reminds us of our old "hood", very nice!

Oh, yes. Lots of development in Ridgefield. The new school is actually 2 schools. A new elementary school is in the works in a few years. Did you see all the building on Royale? Smaller lots. A new development is in the works east of where I live. I think it is 10 acres, and will have lots of smaller houses on small lots. There was a lot of dirt turning over, then work stopped and plastic has been thrown over the dirt hills. I don’t expect more activity until Spring. I think someone finally came to realize “how are we going to sell all these homes that come on the market at the same time?”

Hi Jane...what's the status of the new grocery store planned or under construction in Ridgefield? That was the one hassle with living out there and having to drive into Salmon Creek for all your errands.

Rosauer's is scheduled to open next Spring at the 45th/Pioneer roundabout on the SE corner. Another strip mall is developing on the SW corner.

It will be nice having Rosauer's, but frankly, we have adjusted quite well. It is only 15-20 minutes to Fred Meyer in Salmon Creek, and the same to Safeway in Woodland. We can get in and out of Safeway faster. The two small stores in downtown Ridgefield carry what we need in a pinch, like bread, eggs, milk, hamburger buns. However, I would really like some bok choy for dinner tonight, but I am out of luck since I don't want to trek out.

How's life "on the other side?"

That's the huge difference between Camas and Ridgefield at this point. I have 3 grocery stores within about 5 minutes of my house and 10 groceries within about 10 minutes. There's really nothing in our day to day life that ever requires going more than 10 minutes away. So that's nice. I expect in a decade or two Ridgefield will be exactly the same as you seem to be having development at light speed out there. Especially if they redo the interchange at the fairgrounds and open up all that area to development. Of course at that point the bridge traffic will probably back up all the way to Ridgefield during the morning commute.

So a house finally lists in Wishing wells (huge house!) https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_sal...pa_v0pq0_crid/

but now they think its too cold and rainy, even in the summer so we are looking for a compound in AZ.

Yea, they are looking for around 2,000 sqft on a big lot. We just though the area was great for them. My thought was have such a big house with great lighting and you never have to go outside so what does it matter if its raining or cloudy?

It would sure take a lot to heat or cool that big place. Surprising taxes aren't too bad for such a large place. Couldn't imagine being an empty nester with so much home not being used/needed. The only reason we're looking for a 4+ BR is that we've got three teenagers to house and feed currently. Eventually, we will likely downsize a bit once they're off to college.
