I'm doing a Vegan diet these days. But... Superbowl is coming up. This blog post just came across my news feed made me starting thinking about it: Vegan Super Bowl Munchies
Any ideas, especially for pizza rolls and chicken wings? I haven't been able to find a brand of fake chicken that I like enough as a good enough replacement.
One of my favorites is Buffalo Cauliflower. You take fresh raw cauliflower and cut it up into florets, bread and shallow-fry them (or bake, but fried tastes even better), then toss the florets in buffalo wing sauce before serving. There recipes for vegan blue cheeze dressing floating around (typically using silken tofu and veganaise), but I haven't tried it myself because I'm not into dips all that much.
Ditto on Amy's pizza rolls! Oh, and you can also serve veggie "meat" balls (Trader Joe's is my fave) in that cocktail sauce that involves grape jelly and chili sauce. Lastly, one of the frozen brands (I think Gardein?) makes sliders, which are always a big hit.
Not the best for you, but dang awesome is fried black eyed peas. they are like soy nuts. Boil them, dry them, deep fry them. add s&p, Cajun rub, or old bay when they get out of the fryer.

Gardein makes the best frozen beef burger substitutes that I've found so far. I'd rather eat a lentil or bean burger myself, but my guests would probably prefer Gardein.

I have a question and I am asking because I do not understand at all.
Why would one who is vegan or vegetarian look for "fake chicken" or "beef substitute" when that is what they have chosen not to eat?
It seems to me if you choose not to eat the actual item one should not be looking for a substitute.
As far as superbowl snacks I would guess there are numerous recipes on the internet that would give you a wide variety of items to choose from.
Because sometimes we want to enjoy an old favorite without actually having to eat animal flesh. Personally, I only have meat analogs once in a blue moon, mostly because I'm not particularly fond of them. I LIKE veggies, beans, tofu, etc a lot... but every once in a while I'll crave a burger or meatballs, and the veggie versions usually satisfy the craving because I have them so infrequently.
Plus, at a social gathering not every veg'n wants to stand out potentially be placed on the defensive for their food choices; it's less awkward all around to appear to be eating the same foods everyone else is. On the other side of the coin, I don't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable about their choice to eat meat, simply because I choose not to.
Or sometimes a recipe needs a particular texture that is hard to recreate, and meat analogs fit the bill. For example, I'm tweaking a recipe for "Clam" Chowder that calls for using minced mushrooms as the "clams". I absolutely loathe mushrooms, so I'll be subbing with TVP flakes because the texture and mouth-feel is very similar.
Really, it's no different than someone eating Baked Lays, for example: they want to enjoy potato chips without blowing their diet with fried potato chips.

Same here. I try not to spring too many surprises on guests... especially when it comes to the Super Bowl. Football is sacred.
