Hi everyone, I need your help! I came, to Ventura County because my mom is ill with cancer, and she's alone and scared. However she's in remission right now, but with C you just never know day to day. So I'm staying put, housing has been a nightmare to find. I have a small 10 pound dog who is my son, he's my service dog. I'm on a very tight budget, so I can not afford to pay out large sums of money. I found a marina in Oxnard that will work for us. I have to find a boat, my mom is on section 8 housing and I can not live with her. So I'm looking for a boat, bare bones just to survive on for right now. I'm looking on craigslist bla bla bla, nothing, so many scammers on there. Anyone have any ideas of where to get a boat, and what exact kind I should get? It can't be any bigger then 25 feet, because of the slip fee. So any help with this from anyone would really be appreciated, just send me a message, the marina is in Oxnard, Thanks really appreciate an imput from anyone!

Here's a link to Latitude 38, a Northern California sailing rag - check out their "Classy Classifieds".
Latitude 38 - The West's Leading Sailing and Marine Magazine

Obviously these boats may be too far away for you but maybe not???
A long time ago there was a Southern California sailing rag and for the life of me I don't remember the name and a Google search left me empty handed. You may just want to go over to the Marina and ask around about the magazine and just look around too as they were free for the taking - at least they were 17 years ago!
Also head over to West Marine, there's one in Ventura and one in Port Hueneme and see if they have the magazine or maybe even postings for boats, leads etc.
Good luck on your search.

Not sure how it is today, but their used to be 2 rates, a slip rate for the boat and a live aboard rate meaning that you are staying on the boat for more than 2 nights in a row. Some places have a size requirement for live aboards as well. I know of one marina where a 25 foot boat won't make the cut.

yeah I know, found out the hard way about the size requirements. So I rented office space, I'm going to live in that, I'm moving in today! Wish me luck!

I'm glad you found a space because I was going to tell you that the maintainance involved with a boat is astounding.

I have a friend that lives on a boat in the CI harbor and the slip fees were not that inexpensive, the living quarters were tighter than a single wide and she didn't have a shower. Renting a room makes more sense for someone that is simply frugal or broke. (My friend actually went sailing all the time.)

OP: If your LL discovers you are living out of commercial space you will likely be evicted if caught.
