There is a sink in the garage of the house I rent a room in. It is leaking 744 gallons a month. Needless to say the water bill is crazy. I am trying to figure out how much that is in $$$. Can anyone help me with that? This is in Oxnard CA. Much obliged. Renee

744 gallons = 99.46 cubic feet of water which is .9946 HCF (hundred cubic feet is the calculation your bill shows)

I did some math based on my Oxnard water bill. Oxnard is charging $11.89 per Hundred Cubic Feet of water. So to round things up the leak is costing about $12 a month on the water consumption side.

$12 is not all the cost for the leak; there is also sewage cost. For every drop of water comes out of the pipe, the city charge a cost for sewage of that water going back into the ground or to be recycled.

I calculated my sewage cost, it is $13.29 per HCF Hundred Cubic Feet.

I would say between the water leak and sewage charge. You are incurring an additional approximately $25 a month extra for this leak.

Another way is to ask your landlord to see his/her history of water/trash/sewage bills in order to calculate the additional cost due to the water leak. If your landlord does not have copies of billing history, ask them to log on to Oxnard Utilities web site to download, print, or view billing history: https://www.oxnard.org/online-payments/

How did you come up with the figure? With 744 gallons that is a bit more than a gallon an hour.

Has anyone notified the owner to have this fixed?

If no one is using the sink in the bathroom and no one wants to fix it, can you turn off the angle stop to shut out the water to that sink?
