What restrictions are in place surrounding COVID. Our son thinks that most restaurants are closed. Aside from Brattleboro, is anything open to eat outside? We prefer an outdoor dining experience for safety reasons.

What about hotels? Are they all about to close down because of the Delta varient?

Honestly, is this a bad time to visit Vermont?

I live outside of Brattleboro. The issues with some restaurants being closed. This seems to be more based on the fact they can't find any employees. I don't think covid is keeping anything closed. I would call first if you plan on going somewhere to eat just to confirm their hours. If a restaurant has the ability to offer outside seating they will surely have it. I believe the hotels are all open. As far as I know, the only new mask requirements are in government buildings. I haven't worn one in months. Vermont is fully open as far as I can tell. Most people are vaccinated. Things seem pretty normal, no reason not to come

I'm a little further up. Most people respect social distancing and I observed masks used about 30-40% of the time. That depended on the location. I agree with sqarpeg that restaurants seem affected by the lack of employees and those impacted have scaled back their hours accordingly.

Thanks for responding. We are in NE Ohio, most of which is not a travel destination, and we are experiencing the same problem with restaurants.

We went out to a winery with a restaurant for our anniversary on Sunday. We called ahead for an outdoor table overlooking the vineyards facing west, so we could see the sunset. What an ordeal when we arrived!

The hostess apologized, explaining that they were short-staffed all Summer and this was the week that the Summer employees headed back to college, making everything even worse.

I really felt sorry for the staff. We had a nice dinner anyway. We think we'll head to VT this weekend, or wait until Fall. The only thing about that is we may not be able to kayak, I need to find out when they close for the season.
