Getting back on topic....

I sit here reading my CVPS bill.
CVPS energy: $.12435/KWH
Service charge days: $.39200/day (current bill had 35 days = $13.72)
Energy efficiency charge: $.0067000/KWH
Power cost adjustment mechanism: ($.00089)/KWH

The other figures were based upon usage; this is a vacation home and the electric isn't used as much as in a full time residence. BUT it is forced hot air heat, so the bill will jump come cold weather.

AND -- I am not a hippie, dread-locked white kid banging drums, but I do like Phish! And I really LIKE Phish Food ice cream

I should add... as a HUGE Phish fan (going to CA for their festival over Halloween), I hold a full time job, have short hair, and bathe regularly (as in daily).

The main reason I want to move to Vermont is the more relaxed way of life. I'm tired of the rat race down in southern New England (and I couldn't live in the south or the west). The fact that it's the most beautiful state in the country also helps.

Thanks for the input. I'll have to check my electric bill to see what I pay per kWh.

Our bill just came in this week.
Green Mountain Power-0.13202/KWH
Comcast-183.94/month, includes basic cable, internet and phone.

Where we live Comcast is the cheapest way to go. When we had separate services the bill for all three was close to $250. On the electric bill the cost per month varies. We have cut costs down considerably with energy saving light bulbs, etc. Our bill runs between $150-$200/month with a family of four. Our goal is to try and get the electric around $100/month some of the time. In December(Christmas) and at times in the summer with the AC running we see spikes higher than the average. Oil is what it is. If you don't get on a plan the price is essentially the same everywhere in the state. Ours is capped at 2.74/gal on a co-op payment plan. We shaved off a little over $1000/year by programing our thermostats lower. At night we lowered the temp to 62. In the morning it goes up to 66. In the afternoon they are programed depending on schedules. If someone is home it"s at 66, if not it's down to 62. The same for the evening. Prior to our change we were always between 67-70. It's not summer out anymore, no needs to walk around the house in shorts and t-shirts. It was amazing how a 5-8 degree change made such a huge difference in our bill. This year I have a feeling we will spend a little more than the past few years. This year we turned the heat on much earlier than the past two years. In our case it also helps that our home was remodeled a few years ago with full insulation, new windows and doors.

I do pretty much the same here, though I have the heat go lower during the day when we're not home and higher in the morning when it's the coldest (nothing worse than waking up to a freezing house).

The cable/phone/internet bill seems high. Does that include long distance calls or some kind of unlimited long distance plan? I pay about $130-140 for Verizon FiOS here, which includes unlimited long distance service and their DVR. It's not their most expensive package, but it's a pretty good one.

The cable/phone/internet includes long distance. I have Friends in other states who use Comcast. They pay less than we do, but I am assuming this is partially due to lack of competition in Vermont. Maintenance is a factor that will raise the prices as well. When I lived in Central Vermont, CVPS increased their rates in the winter due to increased maintenance costs.
