Just curious what the area is like and what enjoyable things to do around the area.

Thanks

Unfortunately the bowling alley has burned down so they don't even offer that anymore... Mitchell's is a great family resteraunt that has a DJ named Bubba on Friday nights in the back. That's a whole lot of fun!

Other than that... hmmmmm Nature trails?

train tracks and a small walmart, all the fast food establishments close early, pizzahut stays open till 12 am some nights though. the post is in need of renovation and modernization much of the housing is in standby mode and was on standby for much of the coldwar and has been rotting since then. otherwise 40 miles to the nearest mall and decent city/urban area

Wow! I hadn't thought of Camp Pickett for at least 30 years! I took part in some VA National Guard weekend training sessions held there in the mid-sixties. Even back then, the place looked like a time warp back to the forties. Last time I was there was probably 1967.

As someone else noted you may have to drive a few miles for entertainment; Farmville looks pretty close on the map.

wow did not that place was still around, was there in 1962 for war games? sad to hear bout bowling alley, to bad , i gess that diner is the same their was only one. well if the stills are still around that always put us to sleep early anyway. man gives you lot of time to think and by the the time you figure out what to do it time for the sack. place is like a dog chassing his tail around a flag pole, not much going on! good luck

Default Camp Pickett

Things to do??? Stationed there in 1970 as a MP 1LT. Closest females between 18 and 40 were in Farmville. The place was so wonderful that I volunteered for Vietnam.
