Hi,
I'm new in the country & wanted to explore around. I'd appreciate if anyone can list a few places to visit in old town alexandria. Bear in mind, my mode of transportation is via foot...& I intend to use the metro back to where I am.
So, I don't want to go too far or get lost...just a basic outlook would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Phoenix,

King Street is the main hub of Old Town Alexandria. You can get off at the King Street metro and ride the free trolley up and down King Street. You can start off on the King Street metro end by maybe checking out the George Washington Masonic Memorial. There are a bunch of shops, art galleries, restaurants, etc. lining King Street. You can make your way towards the river to check out the sites. Here is a link to a bunch of sites to see in Old Town:

Alexandria, VA : Attractions (http://visitalexandriava.com/attractions-activites/index.cfm - broken link)

Hope this helps!

Visit some of the old taverns that George Washington & Thomas Jefferson hung out. A lot of people skip Alexandria when they visit DC which is a shame since it is filled with so much history. I like the gas lights at night and brick sidewalks and the many restaurants that overlook the river. If you like steak try Joe Theismanns on King Street across from the Metro.
