My husband and I are finally making the move to DMV but we are in a tough situation trying to figure out where to live. I'll be working all the way in Severna Park and he'll be working in Sterling VA. They seem to be pretty far apart. What would be good place to live where we could both get to work? Is there sort of a middle or at least someplace that won't be to terrible for either of us? Also we're a young couple (23 and 24) with no kids so schools aren't important to us we just want to be close enough to stores, food, etc.

One, or both of you, is going to have a fairly awful commute. I suppose Bethesda, North Bethesda, or Silver Spring, might be okay. The Beltway would be the awful part. Both would be reverse commuting, one on the Dulles Toll Rd (or perhaps Rt. 7) and the other would likely be on the Baltimore Washington Parkway. Technically, you would be reverse commuting on those routes. I say, "technically" because either can get backed up in the reverse direction at times. Just my quick thoughts.

The mid-point is around Wheaton, Silver Spring, Colesville or Greenbelt. They are all OK area to live, but you both will have bad commutes.

I reviewed my post above and realize it's not clear. When I said, "reverse commuting", I meant the portion of the commute on the BW Parkway, or on the Toll Rd. I didn't mean to include the Beltway in that.
