.
While they are at it, they should rename Old Fort Road South to "Snake Road." There should not be 2 Old Forts crossing 210 so close together.

Oh c'mon. What? That whole general area is known as Fort Washington.

Thank you for this. I read this a few years ago. Moved to FW area in mid 60s....Captains Cove. Graduated HS and moved on. But the history of the area has always interested me.

Ha! Are they still calling that snake rd? Haven’t heard that name in years. I remember when it was barely a two lane road and it dipped and curved. Don’t know if they've upgraded it since the 70s.

It is still a two lane road, with better guardrails and lights. They have recently trimmed trees away from the power lines.

Jeff Kinney of "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books who grew up in Tantallon called it Snake Road. My wife said there was also a "Goatman" legend growing up, whatever that means.

I lived there for 25 years, moved away in 2015, it's not an accusation it's a fact, Southern Maryland is "bastid" step child of the DC metro area and Waldorf is the "capital" of it. It's no indictment of the area -- just ride around the beltway exit anywhere, and see if it's better or worse than Waldorf. It's dead last in amenities, transportation, decent shopping etc etc...doesn't mean the people are bad, just not much high end about it.

Yes....I remember the goat man. As I heard it....teens used to go “parking” off of snake rd. (Or any other remote location in the area). And a goat man would sneak up on couples, open the door and drag the young woman away. Lol. Not that I ever went parking off of snake rd.

In junior high, early 70s, we used to hike in a wooded area...in the gully there....on snake road. On your right, heading from fort Washington rd. To 210. About halfway in between the two. We found all kinds of arrow heads and pottery fragments as well as fossils....brachiopods. I remember because I did a 9th grade research project on brachiopods. Burroughs jr. high.

As you were wrong before you are wrong now with your perception of the area.

If you think Waldorf is any more than a lower middle class location in the DC area you need to get out more. The median property value there is approx $250K. The median property value in metro DC is $385K.

That's not perception, that's a fact.

No, that is spin. You're talking two different things here.

You compare the Town /city of Waldorf with the entire "metro area". This is how Charles county fares...
