My wife has found a job in Silver Spring/White Oak area and we are looking to rent a place. Safe area is the most important for our family (we have a kid). I tried to do some extensive search on this topic on this forum and it has been extremly helpful. However, I still have some questions that I hope can be answered.

Based on the other posts, its seems like apartment complexes near New Hampshire Ave and in Briggs Chaney areas should be avoided.
My questions are:
(1) Is Oak Hill apartment (11497 Columbia Pike) part of this bad New Hampshire Ave. area?
(2) What locations encompass the Briggs Chaney area? Are the Hampton Point (3340 Hampton Point Drive) and Hampton Hollow apartments part of Briggs Chaney? Are these apartments in a safe area?
(2) Are there any safe apartment complexes near Silver Spring/White Oak area? We are mainly looking for North/East part of Silver Spring, because I will be commuting to BWI.

Thank you for your help.

Default Safe Silver Spring

I think you're okay. Silver Spring is Safe!

If you're really worried, why not try to negotiate a shorter-term lease. Even if you have a 1-year lease you may be able to negotiate something with your leasing company.

Good Luck.

I beg to differ with the statement that hampton hollow and hampton point are in "very safe, extremely quiet areas." I advise anyone who is renting to stay away from the Briggs-Chaney/Castle Blvd./Robey Road area. The crime map explains why.

I stay in the Enclave apartments. It's on Lockwood drive off of New Hampshire ave. I like it. It's a gated community. It's right across the street from White Oak's shopping center. I think it's a cool place. Check it out. Warning: prices can be a little high, but you get what you pay for.

I mean some of the apartment off Lockwood Drive does have higher crime (crime map explains this and I've been around there before a lot), these would be Montgomery White Oak and Montgomery Paint Branch apartments. Enclave apartments are a lot better though, more security and what not.
