How much do the gyms cost around here? I've heard that Results on U Street is like $100 and Washington City Sports Club is about $60. There's a little gym called Mint that looks small, but new and expensive. Anyone know what prices we're looking at if I want a gym near U Street on the DuPont side? All I need is access to an elliptical machine and then some weight machines.

edit: They don't post their membership costs on their websites, probably because they try to push the hard sell on you in person. I despise that aspect of gyms. It's like a used car lot.

Agreed, gym sales people are a nightmare. I'd love to get an honest rate quote without having to come take a "tour".

I shopped around about a year ago. Yes, Results and Mint are around the $80-$100/month range. It depends on if they are running a "special," etc.

Balance off of Thomas Circle is by far the least expensive in the area. Right now they're charging $50/month with a $50 initiation. There is also a Washington Sports Club on Connecticut Avenue between Dupont and K. I think that their rates are somewhere close to $75/month. The YMCA on the corner of 17th and Rhode Island Avenue also runs around $75/month. It's pretty swanky, though, with rock climbing, racquetball, a pool, etc.

You could just buy an eliptical and some dumbbells and you'd end up saving money after a year.
