I see a lot of flyers for parties that say "complimentary admission" before 11pm. What does that mean?

It means if you are not in line by 10:00pm
(in some cases 9:30) you will have to pay $20 to get in.

So if 500 people get in line by 10, they all get in for free?

You've really never experienced this? Since most people don't go out until after 11, it's an incentive to get people to show up earlier and spend more money inside. Clubs are pretty dead until midnight.

I understand. But hypothetically, would all 500 people get in for free? Or would they, as someone else said, just hold the line until 10:57?

Midtown has no cover yet they hold lines to make it seem like they're busy, but when you walk in, it's not that bumping. But yeah, agree with one of the posters, clubs really don't start to get going until around midnight, but it's always a plus if you can get there earlier and not pay a $20 cover.
