The Federal Government is closed Monday October 29th. If you are not a federal employee but your office or workplace is closed Monday, will you be paid if you don't (or can't) telecommute?
I guess this is what they meant by "saving for a rainy day."
I'm a salaried government worker but I don't really feel any sympathy for anyone who isn't getting paid because I've been there and done that. If your finances collapse due to one day of missed work something just isn't right.

There's no law for such a situation. You need to look into your company's policy and see what they say. I remember when I was with a defense contractor while the Snowmaggedon 2010 fiasco went down and we couldn't go to work for a full week because gov't was shutdown. When offices finally opened back up the next week our employer tried to tell us we'd be forced to use vacation or receive no pay for that missed time, let me tell you.. all hell broke loose. They could tell we weren't gonna let that slide so after a lot of fuss from everyone on the contract, in the end we all received pay for that week without having to use vacation hours. your mileage may vary with your company though

I dont know, I think theres a lot of unnecessary judgement with that when you don't know what the reason for that situation could be. My first year out of college at an entry-level gig with rent and student loans to payback, if I missed a single day worth of pay I would've definitely been hurting
I work in the private sector and we follow the federal government closings. Yes I still get paid.
