Hello,
My boyfriend and I are looking for a place along the orange line in DC as he will be working in DC and I will be splitting my time between gmu and gwu. What areas are safe and fun for a couple in their mid twenties? Our max budget is 1800 for a 1 bed or studio...we're moving from Colorado so well want to be touristy and go out often...at least at first. Any suggestions? We're more creative types btw ie poetry student landscape architect and vegans...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Alex

Probably the Clarendon-Ballston corridor on the Arlington VA side would be your speed.

Yeah, anywhere on the Orange Line between Ballston and Court House. My brother lived in a one-bedroom place in Lyon Park for less than that. It was a pretty nice place.

Arlington is midway, and fits the bill, but ultimately it's perhaps not as counter-culture as you're looking for. Clarendon does have Iota and Galaxy Hut, but also a giant Cheesecake Factory. Ultimately, I think you'll be happier in the city or in Maryland.

Will you be going to GMU in Fairfax or in Arlington?

Thanks for your replies everyone! Ill be mostly at the Fairfax campus but only 3 days per week and I do know how often but sometimes I'll have to be at the Arlington campus for different writing events. Otherwise my bf will be working in DC and ill be splitting my time at GW.

I've tested out the commute via metro to gmu from different parts of the orange line and was fine with a long commute. I lived in Paris and took the metro to class every day and it was aprox 1.5 hours everyday and that was fine by me.

I really appreciate all your help!

Alex

DC is definitely hipper, but the commute can be pretty long from anything cool. Nothing on the Orange Line is particularly cool. I think Arlington is fine. You can always take the metro (and a bus) to H-St NE.

You pretty much mentioned the only two cool places I can think of. However, Arlington does have some good places to eat.

I just looked at Galaxy Hut's menu and it looks awesome thanks for the tip! Lots of vegan options!
