I have lived in a few different areas around Seattle area as a stay at home mom and here's my opinion:

-Seattle (View Ridge)- There weren't many kids on our street, let alone stay at home moms, but I did see a lot of parents with their kids around the neighborhood parks.

-Seattle (Queen Anne)- There weren't any kids or families in that particular location. As a stay at home mom, I personally found it to be very isolating.

-Snoqualmie Ridge- Lots of kids, but most (not all) of them were in day care during the day. Lots of nannies. Several stay at home moms with babies.

-Olympia- Lots of kids (in the newer neighborhoods) as well as a stay at home moms or dads. Frequent sleep overs, birthday parties, sprinklers and squirt gun fights in the summer, etc.

Unless:

-You've lived here along time and got a house before everything went nuts(i.e. Christine pushing tourism).

-You're moving here from another state with a boatload of cash.
I disagree- I've been a SAHM for the past year after a f/t professional career and we're making it work, despite the significant loss of income. I think it's a question of what you are willing/able to give up in order to stay home if that's what you choose to do (noting that of course in some cases there's nothing left to give up because all of both incomes go to necessities).

Not sure of your exact planned location, ness, but International MOMS Club has chapters all over the country - I belong to the Renton chapter and have found a wonderful group of local moms (both SAHM and working). I would definitely recommend checking them out.

Hi I just saw this thread online and I was wondering are there any SAHM's in the Mill Creek/Snohomish area? Or do you know of any nice mom groups? We just moved here about two months ago.I'm a SAHM with three boys (three months, almost 2 and almost 4) and I'm looking for some friends for my kids and me.

I just stumbled onto this thread too! It's interesting. I'm a SAHM and will be moving/PCSing to the FL/McChord area soon and am worrying about the cost of living in the PNW. I'm hoping we will be able to maintain a 1 income family until my youngest (2 1/2) goes to school. Hmm. We're still trying to figure out where we want to live, so I'm thinking that will be a factor. I wonder if there are any links for SAHM moms in the Lacey/Olympia or even in the military installation areas like there is in the Seattle area?
