Not only an understatement, but a stupid statement

There are many, many, states that, were it not for the urban areas, would be vastly different. Think about New Mexico sans Albuquerque and Santa Fe, Pennsylvania sans Philly, Maryland sans Baltimore, or Florida sans Miami, Tampa, and Orlando: All these areas would be vastly different politically were it not for the populous urban areas.

My point is that the big divide in most of the country isn't so much between states, but between urban (and to a lesser extent suburban) and rural areas within and among states. In this regard WA isn't that different from national trends.

And given the takeover of rural economies by corporate agribusiness, most states have highly concentrated population since that is where most people can work for a living. Probably not true of Washington, but in a lot of states, the real divide is between core city and bedroom suburbs. I'm guess half or more of the country lives in near and far suburbs. And to political makeup of those suburbs varies a lot from state to state. I'm just guessing that Seattle and its metropolitan complex has the population to rule Washington. And the technocratic workforce is an unusually high proportion of that group. Antiscience politics may not be appealing to that population, but they aren't so liberal on all issues. A lot of techno-voters are libertarian from what they post.

Was it necessary to be rude? Feel better now?

Here ya go, Washingtonians ... just saw this and thought I'd share:

"It all makes sense now with gay marriage and marijuana being legalized in Washington State on the same day:*Leviticus 20:13: 'If a man lays with another man he should be stoned.' *We were just interpreting it wrong."

Congratulations to your state for stepping out.

Hahahahaha.....

Thanks for the laugh!

I saw where the prosecutor for my county said that pot is still illegal until December 6 and that he will still prosecute until then. In other, less conservative counties, from what I understand, a lot of prosecutors are dropping charges for some of those who currently already have charges pending for possession.

This is the same prosecutor who chose to not go for the death penalty for two soulless murderers who brutally murdered/executed a 16-year-old boy.........after making him watch them kill his father.

That's clever and funny. And also nicely illustrates how ridiculous literal interpretation of the bible is

If you look at state-by-state pres. election results, we were not "most liberal." We vote for Obama by 55 pct. California was at 59 pct, and if you look at the East Coast states from Mass to Maryland, they were all at 58% or greater. Rhode Island and NY were both 62%. Vermont may now be the most liberal of the 50 states; they voted Obama to the tune of 67%, 12 pts. higher than WA.

Well, if you have gay stoners, you WILL get both. But as often is the case, the meaning of the words change over time.

Personally, this state makes me sick sometimes. I've been here 20+ years too long, looking for a way out!! Only a small portion of the state is soooo liberal, thank goodness!
