They're coming, people and I say - YES! It's about time we have speed cameras on our highways! Think of all the money Washington would make off of people who are, well...breaking the law? People who are commiting a CRIME. I bet they would make a lot of revenue. I mean, red light cameras make a lot of revenue. (In D.C. alone, they made over 32 million in 6 years.)
GOOD GOD, that is some Sweet Cash!

D.C. Red-Light Cameras Fail to Reduce Accidents

I think it's a step in the right direction. First they come for the red lights, then they came for the speeders. Maybe, one day we'll all have GPS locaters in our cars. That will be great. You've already got little boxes inside that tattle on you....yep. I love my little box. It's so cute. Like a Pokemon.

"Boxy-mon! I choose you!"
Automobile Black Boxes

The "Black Box" can record informational data, such as: engine / vehicle speed (5 seconds before impact), brake status (5 seconds before impact), throttle position(s), and even the state of the driver's seat belt switch (on/off). The combination of this information along with other engineering factors will indeed revolutionize the field of motor vehicle accident investigation.

You ever see those things you have to blow in - (that measures your alcohol level) - the things to start your car, you know. I think all cars should have those...you know, to protect the public. And automatic seat belt fasteners. Make the car unable to start if the fastener isn't fastened. And someone to pre-chew my food so I don't choke on my hamburger. And someone to hold me in my snuggly and sing me to sleep, so I won't have the nightmare of this Utopia.

It's a freaking revenue machine. Just like the red light cameras.

Nothing more. Nothing less. Give me a break.

You know what's hilarious? If you don't vote for it, you're with the "people who want to break the law."

You aren't siding with the law breakers, are you? Eh, criminal?

WELL, ARE YOU?

I'm all for the cameras, as long as they are used legally. I know with the red light cameras, some cities have been shortening the length of the yellow light, thus catching more red runners....and making MORE money. I'm all for them from the aspect of safety. Money, not so much.

This is a discussion forum about various areas in the country...not speeding.

Though this is a favorite topic of mine.

Speed kills. It is the leading cause of traffic death in Washington state. It use to be tied with drunk driving, but that has become socially unaceptable behavior.

Time to do the same with speeding.

Here are the "official statistics".

As someone who works in a transportation related field, I would say that 95% of the accidents (minor, major, and fatal) that come across my desk are due to someone driving too fast for either that level of traffic, that type of road, or specific weather conditions.

Leave for work earlier... and S-L-O-W D-O-W-N!

The road where i live is 25mph and the average speed is 45!!!
Seen some young kids racing once in awhile doing 80 easily.
It's very sad...
This is very concerning with children and dogs crossing.

I'm all for speed cameras and black boxes in cars. Driving isn't a right, and there are too many idiots out there who are driving like they are the only person on the road.

Default The Breathalizer To Start The Car

those would be great but whos to say that they dont get a sober person (friend) to breathe in the machine to start the car and then the drunk moron drives away after all. Not helping anything.

Didn't that happen in the movie "40 Year Old Virgin"?

That would really suck--it seems people will always find a way to beat the system. Personally, I want to know why the sober person isn't driving!

I hat to sound bias, but i think people who drive big trucks think they own the road. They will tail gate, cut you off, speed, and don't like to use their blinkers. Not everyone who owns a truck is like this, but majority are and it's sad...
