I am also an atheist. So count me among the 30%.

Whoa, wait a tick. One of the miracles that Jesus performed was turning water into wine, pretty sure that means the Christian god is okay with alcohol.

yeah but the bible specifically says in Ephesians 5:18: Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.

basically don't get drunk, well then whats the purpose of even consuming alcohol?

Religion/spirituality is a personal thing, that's why.

What about all the people who follow non-theistic traditions, like Buddhism? There's definitely a moral code there. Does that count? Cultivating "the virtuous life" doesn't have to involve a deity. Or any religion, for that matter. People don't need anyone telling them what's right and wrong, if they've been raised properly. Others have a natural inner compass guiding them.

Beats me! I've always wondered that, myself. Most of my friends have no interest in it.

If people post their responses to the OP, then clearly they are okay with their religion being someone else's business. The OP was asking, no one made you respond.

Please don't impart your values upon everybody else.

The actual surveys give you a better feel for how religious a state is than what people answer here. My guess is even if you go to boards from states in the heart of the bible belt atheists, agnostics, and the non-religious will be overrepresented on City-Data.

Then get drunk on beer. The ancient Egyptians use to use it as a currency. Yeah, I know, there are plenty of other references to drunkenness, just being punchy.

You might want to look at Proverbs 31:6-7, if you are in great distress or live in poverty, you get a free pass.

"6 Let beer be for those who are perishing,
wine for those who are in anguish!
7 Let them drink and forget their poverty
and remember their misery no more."

Also do you follow all aspects of the bible? I personally have a problem with how many contradictions there are.

The OP referred to the numbers of non-religious people of Seattle and those who live by the word. That invites everyone to respond not just those that agree with the OP. I wasn't telling OP to mind their own business I was simply saying that the prevailing attitude in Seattle is that what one believes or doesn't believe is their own private business. If OP only wanted to hear from those who "put God first" it wasn't clear. Following your own truth is always difficult, and personal.
