So I attended a Juneteenth festival and they said the day begins the start of reparations. I'm not black but I'm a "person of color"? Is there any way I can get in on the reparations as a non-black person. I have some ancestors who were basically slaves. Many politicians have showed active support
I think soon Bellingham is also getting another police chief of color. The other candidates didn't fit the bill.

Sure, why not? But you would likely have to devote a great amount of your personal time and energy advocating for yourself. Just don't expect someone to drop whatever it is you desire into your lap because of a situation your great-great-great grandmother faced a two centuries (or more) ago.

I'll tell you what though... unlike any of you Black or Brown whiny MOFO bitChing in this country about slavery I've already legally vetted claims to reparations waiting for me... in Germany.

Yup. Those damn Nazi. Not the "soup Nazi" on the sitcoms or whatever BS fringe group they call Nazi in this country. Like THE Hitler Nazi. So let's skip the part of forced labor in camps, wacked up medical experimentation and just get to the genocide. They killed my great-great grandparents. And lots of their extended family. Arrested my great-grandfather. Of course that was all after they removed their rights as citizens, their right to participate in society and ultimately to work and live. They took away their homes, businesses and wealth.

You stupid if you think that pogrom BS trauma didn't get on that boat with my grand folks. My parent's generation... they're all sorts of F-ed up...

As the grandchild of Holocaust survivors I'm ENTITLED to German citizenship. I have two cousins that have secured theirs through this program. My husband tells me I need to go claim mine so I can open up the EU to our kids.

But do you really hear about the Jews of the world scrambling to reclaim Germany? Took my grandparents 30 years to get the nerve to go back. And when they did -we did- we went to visit our ancestors graves, took pictures in front of the family houses... but we weren't demanding that the people living in them move out. I guess we could have, but really??? By then it was nearly 50 years since they were thrown out. Completely different street, community, country...

I guess what I'm saying is... what the hell do you want? I'm not asking anything of Germany and I have a far bigger claim to something there than you do as an undefined "person of color" with undefined "basically slaves" ancestors in this country.

Here is the thing about Jews in America. They are actually very few in number yet they have a disproportionate amount of success here. That word disproportionate.. it's a buzz word these days. Usually used in the same sentence as "minority". Well, I'll tell you what... Blacks are about 13% and Hispanics, 18%.... Jewish people are only about 2.4%. One of the most minority of minorities... Yet look at how many are represented in law, film, medicine, politics, academia, finance....

I'm sorta fed up with the other minorities complaining. My grandparents and their siblings had everything taken from them but they continued on per traditions in their faith and society and ended their lives with restored wealth. Wealth they built themselves through education and wise decision making and a culture that demands personal excellence. Otherwise how do you explain it? Matching representation in population to representation in achievement... it's just simply disproportionate..

People ought to spend more time looking at culture and less time looking at skin color.

Jerk? Why? I was systematically oppressed. Now the moratoriums and UI bonuses are about to expire. I want my UBI and reparations.

My people faced it in the last century. #stopasianhate has become a thing and Joe Biden cares about the oppressed ::chuckle::, so I have legit hope and expectation. Once Kamala becomes our first lady president I think the reparations will have to happen. She cares deeply about the brown and black people and children of the world.

I wouldn't expect much from Germany if I were you. They seem to prefer refugees over anyone from before. The Jewish people aren't getting enough empathy now days - due to the Palestine occupation. If you want to financially benefit as someone Jewish, you have a better chance by joining the CIA.

Actually, my ethnic group is even less of a minority in the US than Jews.

But think about it... nobody cares that the federal reserve is debasing our currency, a form of robbing us. But when someone asks for reparations or some other welfare, it's treated as the worst thing ever. Blame the politicians, not the poor people.

It can start with black people, since many of them were slaved on US soil. That'll crack the door for all other minorities - even white ones, like ones who live in a trailer park, who are homeless, etc.

I’m black and I’m not systematically oppressed.

The only one oppressing you is yourself and your inability to go find a job.

Reparations are stupid. Stop expecting someone else to care for you. You don’t deserve it.

I saw a white guy holding up a sign that said “End Systematic Oppression” in front of his 2003 Toyota Corolla. I chuckled as I drove past him in my new $70,000 pickup truck and chuckled some more later down the line in the entrance of my gated neighborhood. The real oppression in this nation is laziness and expecting the government to provide for you. I would say your parents fail you, but now it’s the education system that is teaching this lie about oppression.

My kids will never attend public school.

Actually I have a job, which I love, but I still deserve reparations from the government. It's not really "someone else" taking care of me. The government is wasting taxpayer money and banks are gambling with our money, indirectly robbing us. I was in the middle of starting a business when covid man made virus hit and that's when it hit me... There's no free market anymore. We need to get our money any way we can. It's no longer enough to just work hard and hope life is fair. My father won a gov contract because he was a minority business owner and veteran operating in a hud zone, so why not me?

I want reparations from everyone including boomers, white, black, law makers, and celebrities. I know the xenophobes and misandrists will have a problem but it's not my fault. If they're so smart and privileged they can pay up.

The government is indeed wasting taxpayer money, so why are you advocating for the government to gain MORE taxpayer money?

The government needs to LOWER taxes, reduce welfare, stop sending so much money overseas, and spend less on healthcare through preventive healthcare.

In some states, you’re right, the “free market” is so far left, approaching socialism as each day passes, that is definitely much harder to be a business owner today. But you’d have a completely different experience starting a business in something that’s “regressive” as WA, then you would in say, FL. My brother started a business during COVID, and his state government (SC) knew not to encroach on his right to run a business through overbearing restrictions.

If you want change, it’s not about “reparations” and “ubi”, it’s about electing officials that will remove government restrictions, not force a disastrous minimum wage (see: Seattle), lower taxes, and politicians that wouldn’t even think about closing your business because apparently you can get sick in a local coffee shop but you’re just fine shopping at Target…

Business boomed in many states during COVID, and failed as well in many states too. This shows you what state is for you and what state is against you. Tennessee did a LOT better than California this past year, the difference in growth isn’t even close.
