Interesting didn't realize that was the pattern. Did experience some rain there that didn't fit it
Drizzle in the summer can happen more often than heavy rain. I actually don't remember many heavy rain days in the summer here and we usually don't have any storms. Last August we had a storm that was not typical for the summer here.
It usually rains after very hot days, when cooler air arrives (marine layer). There are 2 unstable days and it gets back to warm. This is usually how the west coast gets rain in the warm months. I was in LA once in June and it started raining and it was cool (19C). It almost never rains when it is 22C+.
I can't figure this marine layer business out. I think it must just be something climates on continents get.
Amounts here under about 3mm in summer, are usually with temperatures in the low to mid 20sC but with large diurnal range, which indicate convection.
While frontal rain will usually have a small diurnal range, but a warmer 24 hr temperature.
So when it rains here in the summer, the diurnal range is very low. So, it could be high of 20C and low of 16-17C or even 18-16. But these days are very rare. I can see that last summer we had rain when the high was 83F (28C), but another day with rain got a high of 65F (18C) and a low of 59F (15C).

To be fair.. let's include Western Europe as the following countries:
France, Monaco, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, UK, Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Iceland
and for the PNW.. we'll include: Oregon, Washington, Idaho, British Columbia, Yukon and Alaska...
Climatically speaking, both the northern coast of Portugal and northwestern one of Spain would fit with Western Europe.

In what month were you here? Late summer is more prone to thunderstorms and warmer rain than early summer. But the last few years have been very different. These is my experience and I could be wrong since I haven't looked at data for each day.

Maybe it would be better to compare California plus Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and southern Alaska coast vs Morocco, Spain, Portugal, France, British Isles, Benelux, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland.
