Sydney's having a shocker Christmas day, with showers and only 18C/64F as of midday!
And Invercargill's on 25 C with blue skies!

No, depends on zonality. Jan 1965 was exceptionally cool in Sydney with an absolute max. of only about 27-28C; it was a very warm month for NZ, with a NE bias against southerly bias for Sydney. Blocking vs. mobility.

That's OK - its probably overstated sun mean of 1680 hrs/annum won't change on account of one day.

Looks like the neighbours over the hill in Blenheim will have a 30C/87F Christmas Day.

Not really a fan of rain on the big day, but rain will be good.
Christmas day ended up being 21C-32C/71F, which is about as warm as can be expected here. No rain - but there has been some thunder.

Tried to go for a swim at the beach, but the sand was too hot to walk across.

Boxing day ended up with a high of 28C/83F. Dew points have been around the 20C mark for the last 3 days.

Well, everywhere but Cloudchurch.

And certainly nowhere in NZ had a Xmas morning low of over 27 C (or has ever gotten anywhere near that on any day ever).

Its such a pity that cold air didn't come down here from the North of Scotland

Its 3c and torrential rain, we could get alot of snow.

Told you it was just a dream. Don't worry we've got 2 months and a bit left. As long as I see decent snow i'm fine.
