after sunset, I saw patches of isolated fog right on the ground. Must be some intense radiational cooling. Taken around 6:45 pm. Temperatures were dropping fast — 15°F / 2 hours.

Very nice photos, Nei! Looks like the timing for your color is very similar to here, 43 degrees N in MI.
Things are shaping up nicely in MA! Looks much better than even peak foliage here. The first from the lookout tower seems pretty advanced, with lots of red.
