Wow, I haven't answered yet. Although I'm not a fan of Mediterranean climates (I prefer summers to be quite rainy, because I like greenery and winters to be snowy), I prefer coastal California because of least hot summers.

My god, how could I miss this!

I'd have to pick the mediterranean basin. SW Australia's winters are too mild (it's still like 23°C there) and Coastal California... too mild overall. Climates like Rome, Madrid and Naples are some good examples.

The wetter Californian climates can stay green till at least early summer, but the weather is very dull. Here are some summer views:

of this climate

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacram...fornia#Climate

Sacramento is the king of Mediterranean climates. Firstly, that summer sunshine is the most plentiful of any city in the world. Those temperatures may seem high but Sacramento has a nice dry heat compared to coastal areas.

Greenery? Sure. https://www.google.com/maps/@38.5814...8i6656!6m1!1e1

I really like Thousand Oaks, Ca climate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thousa...fornia#Climate

I also like southern Spain on the coast where I own vacation property... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A1laga#Climate.

If you get right on the SoCal coast say in Santa Barbara, it's still a bit too cool for good swimming.

I'm not as familiar with Australian climates but they look nice although too much rain for my liking in most of the cities I've looked at.

I also like climate of Santiago, Chile...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santiago#Climate

The best ones are not Coastal Chile, but in the Andes slightly Inland along the border, like this one:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bariloche

They are wet but not excessively so, with good temperatures.
