In the United States, the beaches are generally nicer on the East Coast but the coastline is , by far, much more spectacular on the West Coast. There is the Oregon Coast, Olympic National park, the Redwood Coast/North Coast, Big Sur, the Central Coast, just to name a few examples. Within these places are incredible beaches, some miles long. Many are so remote that you may be the only one out there. Anywhere along the Pacific Coast Highway is just absolutely stunningly beautiful. But lets not forget that Southern California also has some of the best beaches in the country, as does the Central Coast.
These pics are from Manasota Key on the FL Gulf coast a few weeks ago. The water is a beautiful clear turquoise blue when it hasn't rained for a few days. Rain makes the water turbid and when the rain ends, the sediment and sand settle back down and the water clears up again.
East coast beaches can have sand as soft and fine as flour and water that is crystal blue. Pacific beach sand felt almost like gravel.
East coast beaches can be long and sandy, curved, rocky or have huge sand dunes and cliffs. When the weather is better I'll take some pictures of New Hampshire beaches with the roses in bloom all over them. Another thing about north eastern beaches is that we don't get JAWS and jelly fish.
If you want to see the sun set to the west, just go to Cape Cod and look out over the bay. You can also walk on sandbars for miles out on sand flats or in ankle deep water.
