Nice pic.. No blooms on those trees yet? I might go to mid May at this pace. There's a saying April showers bring May flowers... guess that will mean buds and blooms too this year.

Lynchburg, Virginia. 72° to 56° in 3 hours.. A 16 degree drop...during the day. http://w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KLYH.html

About half of them do and they are going to die or be damaged.

There is no hope for this festering dump of a city. I really thought this **** was over last week.

Grass has turned bright green. It looks as if someone had painted it bright green! Only half a week it was a dull light-green brown mix.

Freeze Warning! MEG is forecasting 32 for my suburb but IMO it'll be more like 30.

Crops are more prone to damage and death. Tree blooms can withstand the freezing temps better. But you just reminded me. Cold temps slow the growth down.. I know for tomatoes it stunts the growth until it warms back up. Wonder if the landscape will be put on hold.

Models are saying I'm not done with 30s for lows. Might go to the 20th with them.

I'll pull a station from Kentucky out of curiosity to see what the GFS shows in long range. They saw this cold shot pretty good 10 days ago

Yeah, grass here is vivid green now. Quick turn around thanks to warmth and rain.

So it seems like once the northern Jet lifted into Canada we were able to warm up whether it was with a zonal flow or a mini ridge somewhere. However... it seems to me right now that this air mass is impressing me more and more and what that tells me is that the cold air mass dropping down is STILL strong considering it is mid April. I went back to my files and found an awesome comparison..

Notice any difference in these images?

It shows the 850mb temps morning of April 20, 2013 vs this evening. Same situation, trough dug down, front came through, it got cold in many areas but notice something this year.....

The -10C line is south more. Has more push this year and air mass is colder.

Don't know if this will be enough to give us an above normal month.... Nov-Mar has been below average. April so far is also below average
It may not be enough to give where you are referring to an above normal month, but it may possibly be enough to allow for an average month temperature wise, that is if it materializes.

As promised... Bowling Green Kentucky data from latest GFS18z.

Looks like some cold lows till Sunday, then a nice warming trend with 60s/70s for highs. 28th and 29th might have some cool lows again but that's long range so can change drastically. I see a couple of rain chances too on 21st & 26th
