One sprinted across the street in front of me as I was walking around my neighborhood last night (in the rain). It was kind of surreal. Not sure how close to the city they get.

I got a couple of screen shots from the storm. A terrifying giant mutant moth appeared in the sky during the stormy weather.

This might help. I also read it has more influence on the atmosphere temp than surface but we all know they work hand in hand. So if atmosphere is colder because of quiet sun the surface won't be hot.
Clearly it's not a perfect correlation. You said the last time was 2011, the 2011-12 winter was the mildest one I can remember.

This tomato plant is called Cuor Di Bue. I got the seeds from Italy. Heart Shaped.
