Here's where I went today - Highlands, NC - with a hike up Whiteside Mountain (elevation 4930) and a look at Dry Falls, which were anything but dry...lol.
The weather was mild - warm, but not hot - the first part of the hike, it was probably not yet 60, but I still worked up a good sweat anyhow...lol. The views are something else - I need to do this hike again in the fall for the colors.
This from 2000 feet up - I'd love to been able to see what the view looks like from that little farm, so far below...
Town doesn't look like much, but it's pretty busy on summer weekends - lots of upscale restaurants and high-end shops, and posh vacation homes all around. It's the rich man's solution to Atlanta's broiling summers....lol.
Lastly, Dry Falls, anything but dry, and you can walk behind them for an extra thrill.
Were photos #2 and #3 from the summit? Nice waterfall there
Yeah, very close to the summit, which is more like a ridge - probably at the 4900 foot level. The neat thing about this mountain is the sheer rock cliffs - some of the biggest in the East.

Yea, nice cliffs. Doesn't look like 4900 feet from the vegetation — I'm used to New England mountains. 3400 on a mountain here would be all conifers, 4900 feet shrubs and few if any trees. Or just grasses.

Yeah, this is the furthest south of the high moutains in the apps - almost down to 35 degrees latitude. So the 4000-5000 foot level in this area is lush, dense forest (very high rainfall as well). Mt Mitchell, 100 miles further north and almost 2000 feet higher, it's all conifers - too bad it's a 4-hour drive from Atlanta, a bit too far for a day trip.
Maybe this home would be more to Cambium's liking. Nice view there:
1,000 ft further up, the view is no less attractive

New birch forest, there has been a big forest fire about 20 years ago on this slope:
Every square meter is put to good use:
More recent forest fire, from a few years ago:
Corn field about 1,300 m asl. About shoulder height, whereas lowland corn reaches 2.5 - 3 m in August.
Resting bull
Fishing area for the disabled
Dense forest on north-facing slopes
Arid-looking shrub vegetation on the other side of the valley
The last train station before Spain. Overnight trains to Paris depart every day.
So you see the name of this obscure Catalan mountain village in Parisian train stations:

No trail there. Had to go down that rocky slope next to the waterfall. Not doing this anymore.
Remnants of an avalanche. Locals say last winter was quite snowy. Still no trail. Walking on snow is much more agreeable than going through those awful thorny shrubs.
Dense ski & duty-free resort catered to French consumers in Andorra. They have similar retail-oriented towns on the Spanish side, including the capital.

The city ends here. The slope on the other side of the rivulet is in France.

Nice cliff and waterfall!. Looks like you enjoyed a nice NC hike. I forget how close it is to you now. Soon I hope to do a hike in each state. Soon.
