We who love meteorology use the the meteorological seasons(Spring =March 1 Summer=June 1 Autumn = September 1 Winter=December 1)
Only 0.23 inches of rain this October at the airport, making it the 8th driest. Last year's October was the 5th wettest (however the first three weeks last year were rainless with some very heavy rain events towards the end of the month).
Goes both ways. Droughts and dry soils easily heat things up in summer or the right hot pattern AND easily makes things colder. I know for sure it "feels" colder when soils are very dry.
"Temperatures have fallen well below our original forecast this morning - into the 20s in some places!"
"Why? Partially because dry conditions have lead to drier surface (soil) conditions. (pic: Past 2 weeks % of normal precip)"
That's basically how it's been here in Georgia. On October 8, 18, 19, 20, 29, 30 and 31, Athens had record high temperatures of 92°F, 88°F, 91°F, 90°F, 86°F, 87°F and 88°F, respectively. However, the low temperatures on those days were 63°F, 59°F, 59°F, 60°F, 51°F, 52°F and 54°F, respectively. We can't even buy a drop of rain down here anymore, and it's resulting in a wide diurnal temperature range.
I just checked the GFS, and it shows no significant cold for Oklahoma in the next 15 days. There may be a few days that are cooler than normal, but overall it looks to be seasonable or warmer than normal. At least we seem to be done with 80s, and it only looks to be a few degrees above normal most of the time. But I'm hoping to see a frost or freeze sometime soon, and that looks unlikely. The coldest it's gotten so far is 42.

I'm predicting the first freeze in my area to be the middle end of November, average is late October..
The 80s need to ****ing go already, and the 70s better be gone by Thanksgiving.
The 80s can go, but the 70s should stay
