Low temps, and avgs are the difference...
Your normal low bottoms at 32 and your normal mean bottoms at 37, and with much smaller deviations from normal than the NE
Rochester's normal low bottoms at 18, normal mean bottoms at 24, and normal mean is below 32 from Nov 28-Feb 24, and the normal high is below 32 from Dec 16-Jan 12

This is all true, but by the same token, Rochester will get warmer in April than us, so even if it's colder at night, I bet it feels nicer during the day most of the time, and sunnier too. In fact, the record high in Rochester is higher than here in every month of the year, even January and February.

Rochester gets UK-levels of cloudiness though in winter. It gets 28% of possible sun in December which is the same as here - that definitely surprised me. 68% of sun in July though is pretty good!

And it still isn't extreme. An average low of 18 F during the coldest part of the year is hardly "extreme".

That's why it is "The Grey Curtain"

Anyways, Apr is a funny month in Rochester.

Maybe avg's 45-50% sunshine
Avg's 7" of snow(18cm)
Normal High's 50-59
Normal Low's 32-40
High's can be below 40 thru the 15th and below 50 any day of the month
And any day of april can have frost, with possible hard freezes the first half.
Last avg frost in Rochester is Apr 25

It may not be extreme, but it's bloody cold.

Pros:
Good summers
Lots of sunshine
Seasonal Lag means warm Autumn
Short spells of rain allowing good sun
Mild/Warm summer nights
Low humidity
Occasional summer humidity and storms

Cons:
Cold winter (May-Sep)
Spring is inconsistent, was 18˚C maximum last December.
Winter is too consistent with 15-19˚C maximums.
Spring sea breezes, cools down too much in the afternoon
To windy at times, usually between Sep and Feb.
No snow (I wouldn't mind 1 or 2 days )
No warmth in winter
