The average temperatures for July were pretty much exactly average but there was very little deviation at all, with barely a 2C difference between the averages and records. April, May, and June this year all had (slightly) warmer record highs than July.
It was also apparently very cloudy especially in the first half of the month, though I was out-of-town for a few weeks so I missed a lot of it. I did notice most of the grass was green when I got back in the second half of the month, which is very unusual at that time of the year.

You guys were on fire first half of July in columbia, and very dry compared to normal. Most of our rain came in the first half of the month when Temps were close to average, once the high heat kicked in we dried out too. I'm worrying august might finish dryer than normal here, according to the cpc it will. Not everywhere in the south east got rain though, in fact Columbia is not in drought yet.
It's amazing how quickly things dry out around the south. There were plenty of non-native, generic plantings of trees in parking lots of major stores that have completely fried or have been losing their leaves due to the heat. Where do you get your information on droughts?

Yep, even here we have trees that fried since june. There are multiple sources to get the drought monitor map, this is the one I use. This link is beneficial for information on the south.
