Here's the Titanic crash site. When you keep in mind that it's already October and that icebergs could be found there during the winter, it's pretty warm there. https://darksky.net/41,-49

The remarkable thing here is how quickly the SSTs decrease with latitude at this point -- the effect of the gulf stream. For instance, it becomes 10 C cooler in only four degrees of latitude: https://darksky.net/44,-49

Imagine what would have happened if the Titanic had sunk a few degrees further south? Possibly many more people would have survived?

Correction: I think you meant "three degrees of latitude."

It wouldn't have hit an iceberg in the first place if it was 3-4 degrees further south!

Correct, sorry! Even so, that represents a distance of more than 300 km.

Half way between Los Angeles and Tokyo. I wonder if the climate is more Mediterranean or more humid subtropical.

I think that Darksky is a good tool for my pet project of moving continents around.

For Darksky is there any way of getting average figures for the past year or so at any random spot?
