First real thunderstorm of the year tonight One tumble of thunder in February or a few flashes of lightning last week don't count. The last hour picked up 0.37" of rain and there was frequent lightning and some loud thunder. Not very common to have a t-storm with temps in the mid 40s...

Up to an inch of rain today. Close to 4" this month. Only 17 of 145 Aprils have passed 4". The record of 5.81" in 2011 is the second lowest record rainfall after February.

This was a very nice spring day here. About 15°C, cloudy but mild and with the fresh smell of flowers. Trees are blooming two solid weeks earlier as compared to preveious years

If this happens, April 2017 will end up a Top 10, 5 or record warm all over the East.

588dm heights?????????????????????????????????????? This is a July Atmospheric look. 582dm up to Maine! Building heights. Meanwhile Snow for Southern Rockies.

MULTIPLE DAYS IN THE 80s. Last time was 1 day. See the pattern? Heat surges becoming more common and lasting longer. We'll see if this continues into May or can revert back to seasonable/cool.

Max temps Thursday April 27

Max temps Friday April 28

Max temps Saturday April 29

Max temps Sunday April 30

For my own flashback.

Spoiler
I think this will end up being the right call.

March 18th I saw the cold blasts losing its punch and heat surges start to work in. Took a month for heat surges to be more than 1 day worth here.

Quick arctic blast mid week but quick and out. Not as deep as previous. Losing its punch now. Seasonable temps coming with maybe 1 or 2 big warm spikes next 14 days then we'll see if the heat packs a punch to end March or start April. Or if the northern Jet dominates and keeps us on the cool side.

I hope those numbers are wrong. I despise temps above 85, and it's looking more and more likely well hit 80 for the first time this year on Thursday and then 85+ Friday and Saturday

This is usually for memorial day weekend, but not late April.

Edit: Can't believe 90 is even a possibility for Boston - New York corridor. I even see it for Rochester! I'm going to be thanking lake Erie next weekend for clouds preventing us from getting there. Even Burlington Vermont might hit 90 - your final map is showing.

Easter there was just a zonal flow with warmth at mid level surging from the south. This time it's PURE summer like pattern with the ridge building in the East.

Here's data for Hartford.. Note the Heights not just a quick shot of... It's persistent for days. Note the lows as well staying in the 60s. Wow. (These aren't showing the true max/mins but showing the temp at that time. ie: 68° at 8am Sunday. 88° at 2pm)

Rain finally stopping here. Over 3.8" for the month now. Just scattered showers here and there for today. Nice tomorrow!

5-9am loop this morning. Snowing on Mt Washington 6200' then freezing fog then freezing drizzle. Thunderstorm at the Ohio/West Virginia border

I don't have the averages but it's been a noticeably cool, cloudy and rainy April so far.

Most days have hovered at around 10C or 50F or just above or just below. Average for the month is about 12C which means we should be getting some days at 15C-18C to balance out the cooler ones.

The grass is all green of course and there are teeny tiny signs of leaf life in the trees.

The big story here is flooding. A few towns in the area have declared a state of emergency and even in my city there are numerous streets that are closed. My kids have friends who have to go to their house by boat right now. In some areas it's the worst it's been since the 1870s.

Flooding is always unpredictable but I have not heard a good explanation for why this is happening right now. We did have more snow than usual this winter but our snowmelt is long gone and well on its way to the Atlantic Ocean. Now I suppose we are getting snowmelt from up north but I have not heard that they got record snowfalls up there. There is always lots of snow to the north of us.

All of the waterways and lakes in my area have thawed out weeks ago but apparently there are still some lakes to the north that still have ice. It's quite worrisome for people living near water to think that the water will continue to rise.

(Peak water levels are generally in May, not in April, as the snowmelt runoff from the north only reaches the south at that time.)

As of the 20th my station has an average high of 67.5F/19.7C

Slightly cooler in the city, but still well above normal... 64.5F/18.1C
