Interesting, are there monsoon storms near you to cause those? I'm used to seeing coastal CA having blue dome in the summer
Those clouds have been popping in the mountains to the east of Orcutt everyday in last 2 weeks. Very unusual. Not sure if its due to the monsoonal moisture or not.
August 30, 2017: 1:17pm: 70°F here Sunny. k: Crickets are out. Weird. Heard Cicadas maybe 5 days this year?
What's the usual length of the cicada season there?
Late summer here is when crickets and cicadas start to be heard at the same time -on some late summer days, a cloud drifting in front of the sun will be enough to make the cicadas stop and the crickets start, and the opposite when the cloud drifts away -the effect of cicadas stopping singing en masse, is quite an odd one.

On days when the odd cumulus cloud is materializing over the mountains, small ones can often be seen forming and disappearing at the same spot -watching those spots with binoculars can reveal some unusual sights.
Currently 74 with a 54 dew. It's been sunny the whole day
It also reached 76 today snapping the 7 day streak of sub-75 temps. The rainless is streak is now up to 7 days Unfortunately it'll likely end tomorrow.

Interesting cloud observation with them. I dont find them more active with or without but they seem to be usually out on clear evenings and days.
I would say a good 2 months with them July August but can linger into September or start in June if pattern is right for them. They usually chirp when its hot or humid and we pretty much have been lacking that.
Looks like we reached a high of 77 F/25 C which felt warm compared to recent days and nights. I'm getting spoiled by the cool weather.
Friday looks unbelievably cool: sunny with a high of only 63 F/17 C. That's the average high on October 13th. I can understand having a high like that under cloudy and wet conditions, but it's pretty remarkable with sunshine.
I didn't get as much as I was expecting from Harvey today. Less than half an inch of rain since 7 AM and not much wind. Looks like the center of circulation maybe went over Alexandria an hour ago. Most of the heavy rainfall has stayed to the west. There was a tornado threat to the east over Mississippi during the day.
Looks like heavy rain could still develop overnight, but probably more to the north.
