Yup, usually the case. The only time it isn't is when we have zonal West-East flow across entire U.S

But when the northern Jet Stream is up and down like this, one area will be very hot and another area will be opposite. This is called amplified pattern although its not too amplified now. Typically don't see it after April. The northern Jet should weaken and flatten out inCanada, not dip down like this.

Here's how it was for February 7-8. 70s for Maryland, 20s for Kansas

Spoiler

GFS00z says... Heat Wave Coming. Albany Southward June 12-15.

Hate to repeat it but looks like we have to wait until after the 10th or mid month for the real hot pattern to return. 9 days away now so we'll see.

Ridge goes from the Rockies this coming week and moves East each day and becomes this the following week. Heights rise to 585+ in the region

There must been sometimes when it had a high in the low 40s but only above 40°F for a couple hours. This was a day with a high in the low 40s (before sunrise), but experienced 39°F at the summit. Not sure why I wrote 40°F in the hike description, maybe just rounding? Or I'm looking at hourly observations, and it reached slightly warmer in between hours

true, but zonal flow isn't enough to really above or below average weather.

Looks like I was the hot spot yesterday in the Chicagoland area...... And a big pattern change is coming after a brief cool down Mon/Tue

80s continue this weekend followed by brief cooldown | WGN-TV

Might get really hot again in the Northeast. Both GFS and Euro showing signs of a 591 building

August, especially end of August its more common for 40s as highs for sure. Nice flashback pics. I don't remember that and I know what you experienced with going into the clouds up there. Glad I experienced that (in the ADK) even though sucks for views.

Yup, that's why I mentioned it. The only way one area isn't well above and the other opposite is with zonal flow. But there are exceptions. Mid Level flow can be from the south and bring extreme heat somewhere.

Current map. Very warm morning in Minnesota!

Lake Effect Rains? lol

Localized heavier rains for some. You can see which stations reported rain falling.

I had a drizzle but overcast all morning. I hear people complaining again. I guess 2 amazing days wasn't enough. lol
