We shall see. Models already pointing out Florida will get to freezing levels and NorthEast wont get past 20 next week while New England real feel temps will be sub zero.

Interestingly December 1984 was very warm and it was followed by a Fridgid January. That winter was also a Weak La Nina like this one.

Should be interesting.

January 1985 ended up breaking a lot of records.

This is latest Euro model which runs twice a day. Pretty much has been showing this for a while now and other models do agree so there is support for this.

January 3rd, 2012

Light green is the 32 degree line.
Pinks & Purples are below 0 degrees Fahrenheit

I hope this is true because I'm ready for a cold spell. Supposed to dip into the teens here next week.

I really hope this comes to frutition.

On that map the lows didn't look impressive, but struggling to reach 20 F will be. Current forecast for next week calls for highs not getting out of the 20s. Of course this will probably change.

This looks miserable. Hopefully it won't last that long.

Kinda bad timing, might have to do stuff outside. What a pain...

Most of those forecast temperature readings seem impressive.
However, the most impressive is Montreal Canada and Quebec City’s 10 day forecast.

For Montreal, on January 3 the forecast is a high of 6 degrees, with a low of 3 degrees. The day after that, the forecast high is 7 degrees with a low of -10 degrees below zero. Both of those days it says will be windy with 20mph-30mph winds. I also saw recent forecasts where Montreal will also be cloudy every day the next 10 days in a row, in addition to the extreme cold.

A major metropolis in a December-January arctic wonderland.

Quebec City will be even colder, but a bit sunnier. For January 4, Quebec City will have a high temperature of -1 below zero with a low -19 below zero, with 20 to 25 mph winds.

Millions of people live in Montreal and Quebec City metro areas. Pretty much every winter, they seem to deal with arctic winter blasts like that and even colder, with quite cloudy winters and usually a lot of snow.

I visited Montreal three times before in three different years, but only in the months of July and August. I actually wanted to visit Montreal in January just to see how different that city is in person compared to July/August.

I've been to Montreal twice, and both time in the summer. It looked like a really nice city. Very laid back atmosphere. I'm also curious to see what it is like in the winter.
I also want to check out Quebec City's winter carnival. Brrrrr...

I was looking at the text output for Burlington, Vermont. It doesnt get above 8 degrees for 3 days in a row.

Latest GFS has NYC not getting above 32 Tues, Wed. Thurs. Fri and in the teens Tuesday night.

Without factoring in wind chills.

Normal high for NYC is 39. Normal low is 28.
