As much as I enjoy this mild weather, I would prefer a zonal pattern to the jet stream. It causes less extreme anomalies for everyone.

It's actually easy to dress for heat but most in the US don't know how to do it because of their European ancestry. Having spent time in Australia and SE Asia I understand how to dress and I'm always comfortable.

How is it easier to dress for the cold? You would need a lot of layers and 3 jackets. For hot weather, you just need shorts and a t-shirt, much cheaper too.

Im not buying it yet. Would like to get closer in time. Too much hype on the cold coming back.

Maybe this current pattern will be a 3 week relax period....or maybe its the new pattern till March

I agree cambium! Think the mets are too excited after the record cold we had... the signs they keep touting are still forecasts and not reality... ill believe the cold when the indices achieve what they are forecast... mjo heading to phase 8, pna spike, ao dive, strat warming, all of it... not too mention nina climatology favors a warm february and march... rare to get a cold nina march... we will see! Then you have joe bastardi saying this cold will be colder than early jan which is not even possible! That was record cold, how on earth do you get colder than record cold? Something tells me this is just like february 2012 when jb was going on about 1985, and how a massive strat warming would lead to a cold feb for us... didnt happen.

I tend to stay up till after 1 am most nights, so I'm fine with late sunsets. I have no need for it to be light before 7 am, but I like it to be getting light by 8, which is the earliest I wake up. Saginaw, MI has great sunrise/sunset times.

If you wear a thermal you can use less layers. And that's exactly how you dress for the cold, you layer.

Shirts and t-shirt won't cool me down in 105 degrees but nice layers will warm me up at -5 degrees. At 105 all a t shirt will do is be more comfortable than a jacket. Honestly at those temps I wouldn't even wanna wear a shirt. That would still make me too hot! What's the best way to dress for the heat outside of being naked/shirtless?

Here's some pics of today's storm. My back and front yard. Last I checked the porch got 10 inches of snow. Probably close to 11 by now.

I am doing this on my android not my laptop so just in case the pics don't work there's links to the same pics

map looks more like a below average cold rather than anything extreme. Of course, given our climate, somewhat below average weather could mean some normal weather with extreme cold mixed in.

If you're out in 105, it's better to have loose long white linen pants and a breathable short sleeve shirt that's buttoned down in the chest a bit. Sandals are best and a wide brimmed cap.

I laugh when I go up north and I see bare chested yankees sweating in the sun. You've actually got to cover up a bit to stay cooler.

Now sleeping, that is best done in the nude!
