San Diego is dryer, Honolulu is more humid.
I'd take San Diego any day.
Plus Honolulu is super expensive and far from the rest of the U.S., and I could be wrong but also prone to hurricanes or tidal wave, no? San Diego is mostly very safe, clean, nice.
But yes, Honolulu has warmer water for swimming.

Yeah, but where in San Diego can I get rain?

I’m aware that the summer temperatures heat up quickly as you go inland, but I’m not aware of anywhere in the SD area that has 60” or more of rainfall.

San Diego by far.

Honolulu is still rather humid, despite not being rainy. And I wouldn't say its temperatures are "mild". It still seems pretty warm and muggy.

Both are very pleasant if boring climates in my view and it's hard to choose one over the other - San Diego has a little seasonality but is mild year round whereas Honolulu is warm to hot year round. I'd by a narrow margin pick Honolulu as it's a little wetter and I'd rather year round warmth than year round mildness.

Most do not make landfall & cause no more than heavy rain & localised flooding. The last damaging hurricane to hit Hawaii was in 1992.

Yep, if you want a lot of rain, SD is not for you. I just think the overwhelming majority of people that diss SD climate have never experienced it...it's fantastic. But if you want tropical, Honolulu is better.

Yeah Hurricane Lane hit Hawaii last year. Not sure about the impact in Honolulu but Hilo got 4’ (yes, feet) of rain that month.
