Yeah Hurricane Lane hit Hawaii last year. Not sure about the impact in Honolulu but Hilo got 4’ (yes, feet) of rain that month.
Hurricane Lane didn't actually make landfall. The Big Island had the most impact, mostly due to flooding, the other Islands had heavy rain & localised flooding but Honolulu didn't have it that bad.
Honolulu is still rather humid, despite not being rainy. And I wouldn't say its temperatures are "mild". It still seems pretty warm and muggy.
If you are from Midwest or Deep South, Honolulu weather is really comfortable and dry.
Summer Dew point
upper 60s (Honolulu) vs mid to upper 70s (Deep South)
If you are from So Cal and SF Bay Area, Honolulu might be too humid for you.
Dew point >60 in the Bay Area is pretty rare here.
These two have mild temperatures, abundant sunshine and just very pleasant weather year round. You can't go wrong with either one.
Except, of course, if you don't like perpetual heat. Then you can tolerate San Diego, and Honolulu would be deeply unpleasant.
Not everyone likes the same thing, antinimby.
