Yeah it is colder. We average about 12c in October.

Here in October it's 10 C and of course colder further north.

There's more to autumn than October. Also, you're speaking in very broad and general terms. There's places in the Northern US with colder average highs than 12 C with much colder nights.

That's average, not average high. You put way too much emphasis on the high temperature.

Oh you mean the high. Yes, the high is warmer...here it's 17 C, but the low and the overall mean are cooler.

November's mean max is 10 C.

I don't think that matters much in October. Also the mean affects snow melt the most, not just the high. Hours of temperatures below freezing matter more than the high for the day. The snow will melt slower on a 3/-13 day than on a 0/-4 day.
