You are correct.

If you look at USDA zone 8 and higher in the USA, it is not the majority of the lower 48. Hardly.

The dark line shows the northern limit of zone 8.

The vast majority of the UK is zone 8 and above. A far larger percentage of the US landmass is below zone 8 than the same comparison in England.
