Usually the lake helps us, too but the last blast dropped us below zero, for several days. However, not nearly as bad as inland or north of me so I can cope.
I whine but I'm dealing with it; I'll let you know in a few days when the next blast hits!
We have been having a bit of a bitter cold snap here in NJ/NY but I would take that hands down to 1 summer in San Antonio..wouldn't mind San Antonio right about now but summers...no way!!
We had a brief warmup in Grand Forks ND to 15-18 degrees for highs the past few days but tonight back below zero and it will stay below zero through Sunday (day and night) with wind chills to 40 below. I love it and dread the end of winter
I'm further north than the lot of you in the US unless you are in Alaska. But we have milder winters than most any northern states due to the gulfstream. Well here we have at least had a "proper" bit of winter cold for the UK with a december and early january average temperature of just 36f. Compare that with the same period 2006/07 when it was 41f, very mild. However, like recent years, we have had a real lack of snow again. The main thing is I can cope with winter but what bothers me is that our summer is only slightly warmer than our winter and doesn't really feel like summer.
You would think that your summers would be warmer due to the same gulfstream but I guess it doesn't work that way!
I've visited England a few times, lucked out weather-wise because it was in Sept. which can go either way the weather sunny and very nice.
No because that Atlantic current like most maritime currents has very little variation in temperature throughout the year at its source. Given that the UK still has a large maritime effect in the summer, this moderates its temperatures. Compared to its latitude, the UK has cooler summers than continental areas of the same latitude due to this maritime moderation. Average maxima for an English summer ranges from about 21.1c/70f in the south east at the highest to 16-18c/60-64 in the very north west. Bloody crap. And plenty of rain from those moisture laiden s/westerlies. Mind you most of the rain only happens in the west.
