Commute from Boca to Fort Lauderdale
What is the commute time from Boca to Fort Lauderdale? Is this doable?
I am looking for good schools/family area and my husband's job will be in FLL.

I used to commute from Glades road in Boca Raton to Davie which is fort lauderdale metro area.
Doable depends on where you are going and coming from. Boca isn't small place so I mean you could be in one place near I 95 or near florida turnpike and its a easy thing to do, or you could be far out of the way and the commute could be annoying. Do you know where you will be exactly and where you will be commuting to exactly?

Just live in Davie and take the 15 minute commute over the 45 minute commute for a minimal upgrade in schools and safety. Also much closer (but further than Davie) are Cooper City and Weston, which probably have better schools and are more family oriented than Boca. Weston actually has a blue ribbon elementary school, the only one in the state. There is always a hesitation for people to locate in Broward. Why? I don't know, the stats (and my experiences) actually prove it to be a little better than Palm Beach if anything. And I will post experiences and stats to back them all day.
Go to GreatSchools.net and compare schools in Davie/Cooper City/Weston vs Boca Raton. Go on City-Data and compare crime rates. Visit the communities yourself and see what the locals are like. You will see exactly why there is no reason to take the drag from Boca.

We are looking for a rental and most of the rentals that come up are from Weston. When I mapquest Weston and Boca, both seem to be about 28 minutes. Does that seem about right?

Hmm, actually, now that I come to think of it...
You will have signifigantly less traffic coming from the north (Boca) than you will from the west. I-595 out of Weston gets sluggish, but Boca has the longer distance. Also, Davie has few complexes in the good school areas (although it is further east), but plenty of condos/SFHs for rent. I-95/Turnpike seem to never have traffic, unless there is an accident, and then you get off and take an alternate. 595 gets sluggish every morning. 30-40 minutes sounds about right for Weston and 40 sounds about right for Boca.
If I had a choice between Weston or Boca, then I would probably pick Weston but they really are both nice areas with their own pluses and minuses and I would love to live in either. Davie is considerably less upscale than the two, but still the closest-in family suburb to Fort Lauderdale if you don't mind living in a less high-scale area for a better commute.

Is it downtown? That makes a big difference. The average person I think would find it doable.
I find an hour of steady driving doable and an hour of stop and go traffic not doable so its really up to the individual.

I did that commute for almost a year. Used to live in Davie and drove to Boca... Takes about 40 - 50 mins depending upon traffic, so it is doable. Also if you live/work close to the expressway you can shave off an extra 5 - 10 minutes. Welcome to Sunshine
